Late: Muslim Leaders Considering Moving Victory Mosque? —Ace

Hmmm...

Sources in New York said on Monday that Muslim religious and business leaders will announce plans to abandon the project in the next few days.
New York Governor David Patterson said last weekend that Muslim leaders had rejected outright his proposal tto swap the site in for another in Manhattan.

But several people familiar with the debate among New York's Islamic activists now claim that the leaders are convinced abandoning the site is preferable to unleashing a wave of bitterness towards Muslims.

Obama's Mosque Remarks Reverberate...

Hamas nod for Ground Zero mosque...

A leader of the Hamas terror group yesterday jumped into the emotional debate on the plan to construct a mosque near Ground Zero -- insisting Muslims "have to build" it there.

"We have to build everywhere," said Mahmoud al-Zahar, a co-founder of Hamas and the organization's chief on the Gaza Strip.

"In every area we have, [as] Muslim[s], we have to pray, and this mosque is the only site of prayer," he said on "Aaron Klein Investigative Radio" on WABC.

Obama catches holy hell - NY Post

WASHINGTON -- The heated debate over building a mosque at Ground Zero emerged as a national campaign issue yesterday as Republicans blasted President Obama for flip-flopping on the issue and being "disconnected from the mainstream of America."

Republican strategist Ed Rollins said Obama's mosque remarks were "the dumbest thing any president . . . or candidate has said since Michael Dukakis said it was OK to burn the flag.

Republicans Fault Obama for Endorsing Mosque Construction Near Ground Zero - CNS News

(CNSNews.com) – House Republican leader John Boehner (Ohio) says the decision to build a mosque two blocks from the site of the Sept. 11 terror attacks in lower Manhattan is “deeply troubling” -- and so is President Barack Obama’s decision to “endorse” the mosque construction.

“The fact that someone has the right to do something doesn’t necessarily make it the right thing to do,” Boehner said in a statement issued on Sunday. “This is not an issue of law, whether religious freedom or local zoning. This is a basic issue of respect for a tragic moment in our history.”

German mosque used by Sept. 11 attackers shut down...

BERLIN — German authorities say they have closed a Hamburg mosque used by the Sept. 11 attackers as a meeting place before they moved to the United States.

A statement by Hamburg officials says the Taiba mosque was shut down and its cultural association was banned on Monday.

The prayer house, formerly known as al-Quds mosque, used to be a meeting and recruiting point for some of the Sept. 11 attackers.

Weekly news magazine Focus cites a report by a local intelligence agency branch in saying the mosque has again become the city's "main center of attraction for the jihad scene." It says some members who belonged to the Taiba group and prayed at the mosque have moved on to a radical training camp in Uzbekistan.

Here’s Why It’s Called the ‘Ground Zero Mosque’ - Michelle Malkin/Doug Powers

Concerning the construction of a Ground Zero mosque, it’s too bad that the sudden respect for private property isn’t coming from people with a track record of giving a damn about private property rights — maybe they’d have just a little more support.

For example, Speaker of the New York City Council, Christine Quinn, supports the construction of a mosque on private property in close proximity to where Islamic terrorists murdered over 2,700 people — but what kind of New York grand opening does Quinn oppose? A Wal-Mart — on private property.
Maybe somebody can convince Quinn that Park51 won’t allow employees to unionize.

Obama is shot down by his own straw men - Betsy's Page

It has been delightful to see the White House and Obama tying themselves in knots with trying to take a position on the mosque near Ground Zero while not going too far out on a limb away from American political opinion. So first Obama came out with his carefully crafted speech on Friday night to his Muslim guests at the White House Ramadan dinner.
But let me be clear. As a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country. (Applause.) And that includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in Lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America. And our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakeable. The principle that people of all faiths are welcome in this country and that they will not be treated differently by their government is essential to who we are. The writ of the Founders must endure.
But that was all one big platitudinous straw man. Except for a few people on the fringe, no one is saying that the Muslims don't have the right, legally and constitutionally, to build their mosque. The objections go to the choice that they are making to inflame public opinion by putting that mosque there. Critics are asking that they rethink their decision and place their community center and mosque somewhere else. No one is saying that there should be legal restrictions on where Muslims can and cannot build mosques.

Legitimate Questions for the President - Sarah Palin

Mr. President, should they or should they not build a mosque steps away from where radical Islamists killed 3000 people? Please tell us your position. We all know that they have the right to do it, but should they? And, no, this is not above your pay grade. If those who wish to build this Ground Zero mosque are sincerely interested in encouraging positive "cross-cultural engagement" and dialogue to show a moderate and tolerant face of Islam, then why haven't they recognized that the decision to build a mosque at this particular location is doing just the opposite? Mr. President, why aren't you encouraging the mosque developers to accept Governor Paterson's generous offer of assistance in finding a new location for the mosque on state land if they move it away from Ground Zero? Why haven't they jumped at this offer? Why are they apparently so set on building a mosque steps from what you have described, in agreement with me, as "hallowed ground"? I believe these are legitimate questions to ask.

Obama Mosque
By Neal Boortz

You can't imagine how shocked I was to hear our Community Organizer promote the mosque at Ground Zero.  On Friday evening, in an observance of Ramadan, here's what Obama had to say about the mosque:

"As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country ... That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances ... This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable."

Wow.  Is this guy sharp or what?  Am I the only one getting a bit weary of Obama bringing his community organizer mentality to the podium of the White House?  The issue has never been whether or not Muslims have the right to build a Mosque - community center - or whatever they chose to call it.  The issue has been WHERE they want to build it.  Obama made this statement in the presence of some of this country's most influential Muslims.  This was an opportunity for him to address the sensitivity Americans have to the building of this Mosque on the site of a building damaged by the 9/11 attacks ... a site just two blocks from Ground Zero.  Obama could have simply said something like this:  "The American people have a deep appreciation for freedom of religion and have shown through the history of this country their tolerance of different religious viewpoints.  All they're asking of the Muslim community is recognition that many, perhaps most Americans consider the location of this planned Islamic Community Center as hallowed ground.  The landing gear from one of the aircraft flown into the World Trade Towers crashed into the very building that will be demolished for the construction of this Islamic center.  As President, and on behalf of the people that I represent, I would ask you to reconsider your plans for this project."

But nooooo.  Not Barack Obama!  The next day, Obama decided to "clarify" his comments:

"I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there," Obama continued. "I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding. That's what our country is about. And I think it's very important as difficult as some of these issues are that we stay focused on who we are as a people and what our values are all about."
So .. there you have it.  Not one mention of Ground Zero.& Not one mention of the sensitivities and concerns of the American people.  In fact, he specifically said that he would not comment on that.  How's that for leadership?

What an amazing disaster this man is.

Obama Teaches Tolerance - The Black Sphere

By Kevin Jackson
In most Muslim countries, Christianity can only be practiced behind closed doors, if at all. Muslim countries allow no religious symbols from other religions, so no Bibles, no crucifixes, no pictures of Jesus, and no Virgin Marys on the dashboard of your hoop-t!

And if you are caught practicing “other religions” then you might be treated like Prabhu Issac, where in 2001 Saudi police raided his homes after hearing that he may be practicing Christianity! The horror!

“The Muttawa [Saudi police] confiscated Prabhu’s computer, photo albums, Bibles, songbooks, and all his audio cassettes and videotapes. Fellow Christians are concerned that the personal files on Prabhu’s computer may have contained the names and addresses of other Christians who often would meet together in each others’ homes to sing and study the Bible. In Saudi Arabia, it is illegal for Christians to gather together to practice their faith…The Muttawa are constantly on the lookout for foreigners who are openly practicing their faith, including gathering together for religious purposes other than observing Islam.”
Imagine if in America there was a crackdown on people practicing Islam and police raided Muslim homes in America. But to hear Barack Obama speak on religion, America is the intolerant nation.
