Petraeus Condemns Florida Church's Plans to Burn Korans - The Root

Gen. David H. Petraeus condemned plans by a Florida church to burn copies of the Koran, saying the demonstration could "endanger troops" and damage the U.S. war effort in Afghanistan. The U.S. embassy in Afghanistan also condemned the Florida church's plan, saying the Obama administration opposes "acts of disrespect" against Islam. Petraeus' comments come a day after 500 residents protested at a Kabul, Afghanistan, mosque, burning American flags and chanting anti-U.S. slogans. The Dove World Outreach Center, a 50-member evangelical Christian church in Gainesville, Fla., announced plans to burn the Islamic holy books on Saturday, the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States. At the Kabul protest, residents burned an effigy of Dove World pastor Terry Jones. Fifty zealots threatening to burn Korans and jeopardizing the safety of all Americans under the guise of upholding Jesus? Sounds like hate to us, which is not Christ-like. Shaking our heads over here at The Root.

My Two Cents...

Ok I’ll admit I’m in a really shitty mood today so take this into consideration. Will someone anyone please help me to understand why the fuck the country and the entire Muslim world estimated at somewhere around 1.66 BILLION gives a shit about some fucking hillbilly church with FIFTY… 5… 0… members burning a book!?

Has this world gotten that fucked up? Seriously folks I’ve seen and read so many stories about this church and the international outrage over this insignificant piece of shit church and that redneck pastor I’m just amazed at just how fucked up this world has gotten and how people need a reason, any reason to bitch and moan and cry over something. Everyone has this “need” to be pissed off or outraged over some insignificant bullshit.
Hey you Muslims out there go to a bunch of HO-Tels and round up a bunch of bibles that aren’t being used and have yourself a big bonfire, I won’t give a fuck because it is a fucking book. You are suppose to wear your religion within the confines of your heart not on the pages of some dead trees.
I swear this planet and all the people on it are on one hell of a collision course with reality one day. Humanity really sucks and it is on days like today and reading about stupid shit like this that makes me think that all of “this” simply needs to be wiped out and started all over again.
Sorry for being such a bummer on hump day but really folks this is over the top retarded.

The General and the Constitution - The American Spectator

What is it with General David Petraeus, head of U.S. forces in Afghanistan? Has he not heard of the Constitution?

Let me explain what I mean. Now we are at the nine-year anniversary of the horrible 9/11 terrorism that killed over 3,000 Americans. Various people are marking the event's anniversary in various ways. One of the kookier ways is that a small church in Gainesville, Florida is hosting -- or is planning to host -- a burning of the Islamic Holy Book, the Koran. The burning, a nutty idea, is to protest the church's views of Islam as intolerant.

This is a tiny little church and it will be a small event.

But however small an event it is, it's peaceful, does not involve violence, and should be fully protected by the Constitution.

Of course, as one might expect, some Muslims are infuriated by this plan and I don't blame them. It's infuriating. But it's still protected by the Constitution as an exercise of religious freedom.

Quran-Burning Church Wants to ‘Shock The World Into Focus’

(CNSNews.com) – Showing no sign of backing down under growing pressure, the Florida church planning to burn copies of the Quran on the anniversary of 9/11 offered “five more reasons” for doing so on Tuesday. It also took a swipe at critics, including “U.S. generals,” over freedom of speech.

Obama's Shrinking Presidency - Real Clear Politics

One of the unintended results of the redecoration of the Oval Office was the downsizing of Barack Obama. In last week's prime-time address to the nation, the president sat behind a massive and capaciously empty desk, looking somehow smaller than he ever has -- a man physically reduced by sinking polls, a lousy economy and the prospect that his party might lose control of Congress. Behold something we never thought we'd see with Obama: The Incredible Shrinking Presidency.

This is an amazing and, to me, somewhat frightening turn of events. The folks who ran a very smart presidential campaign in 2008 have left the defining of the Obama presidency to others, in this case people on the edge of insanity. For example, a recent Pew poll reported that "nearly one in five Americans (18 percent) now say Obama is a Muslim, up from 11 percent in March 2009." In other words, the longer Obama has been in office, the more ignorant people have become about him.

Would a Black Person Get Away With This? - The Root

Every now and then a scandal comes along that makes you wonder what would happen if the circumstances were the same but the skin tone changed. The Root takes a look at a handful of brow-raising incidents and asks if race and privilege influenced the outcome.

1) Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's daughter, Caroline, is no Winona Ryder (remember, Ryder stole $5,500 worth of merchandise from Saks Fifth Avenue in 2002). You could say it's merely a matter of powerful connections, but we wonder how likely it is that a young black woman accused of shoplifting $100 worth of makeup from Sephora could have her charges dismissed as long as she completes one day of community service?

2) Think Barack would have become president if Michelle had ever killed a man, as Laura Bush has?

In a new book, Mrs Bush claimed she suffered years of guilt and lost her religious faith over the tragedy which happened when she drove through a stop sign as a teenager

3) Would a black man in the entertainment business be allowed to avoid sentencing for having sex with a minor after 30-plus years, even though he had already pleaded guilty? (Remember that guilty plea before you say R. Kelly or Michael Jackson.)

Man Receives 15 Year Sentence For Unweighable Amount Of Crack - News One

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Police found such a small amount of crack cocaine in James V. Taylor’s car that investigators described it as unweighable. It was enough for a 15-year prison sentence in Missouri, where the courts make an enormous distinction between crack and powder cocaine.

Missouri and several other states followed the federal government’s lead in creating such disparities decades ago, but now federal law has changed and prisoner advocates say it’s time for the states to do the same. Most drug cases are prosecuted at the state level.

Defense attorneys and other critics of the tougher crack sentences say they subject mostly blacks to long prison terms while those caught with powder cocaine — mostly whites — get far more lenient treatment. Some prosecutors defend the disparities, saying that because crack is smoked, it gets into the bloodstream faster than snorted cocaine, produces a more intense high and is generally considered more addictive.

The federal government imposed tougher sentences for crack in 1986, when use of the drug was rampant and 22-year-old basketball star Len Bias died of cocaine intoxication. Early news reports said Bias had used crack, but after the federal law was passed a teammate of Bias’ testified that Bias had actually snorted powder cocaine the night he died.

NYPD Cop Suspended For Failing To Help Child Dying Of Asthma - NY Daily News

The NYPD has suspended a cold-hearted Brooklyn cop who failed to help a woman as she frantically drove her dying daughter to a hospital, police said.

Police Officer Alfonso Mendez, 30, who is assigned to the 84th Precinct in downtown Brooklyn, had his gun and badge taken and will likely face a departmental charge for failing to take proper police action, cops said.

The stunning announcement - which vindicated the grieving mother of Briana Ojeda, 11 - was a quick and surprising turn of events.

Tuesday morning, as the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau hunted for the mystery officer whom Carmen Ojeda blamed for her daughter's death, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told reporters not enough was known to determine if the man was an NYPD cop.

The probe suddenly came together within a few hours Tuesday afternoon - and Mendez, who was suspended without pay, later copped to having been the man in uniform who pulled over Ojeda in Cobble Hill Friday.

Chris Dodd's last act: 'Control the people' - WND
Alarms raised over Democrat senator's likely final major piece of legislation

WASHINGTON – Alarms are being raised over what probably is retiring Sen. Christopher Dodd's last major piece of legislation, the Livable Communities Act, which has been approved by the Senate Banking Committee and how is heading to the Senate floor, for its likely U.N. inspiration and goal of controlling people.

The plan would create a new federal bureaucracy, the Office of Sustainable Housing and Communities, armed with some $4 billion in federal grants, to pressure local communities into a more "green" development agenda.

Detractors say its priorities can be traced back to the U.N., which at an Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 adopted Agenda 21, outlining the goal of having government control over people.

Do We Need $75,000 a Year to Be Happy? - Time

People say money doesn't buy happiness. Except, according to a new study from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School, it sort of does — up to about $75,000 a year. The lower a person's annual income falls below that benchmark, the unhappier he or she feels. But no matter how much more than $75,000 people make, they don't report any greater degree of happiness.
I don’t make anything close to $75,000 per year however I arguable have one of the most enjoyable jobs that combine my work/training background and something that interests me greatly. I’m not broke by any stretch but the fact that I’m not particularly “happy” does not have shit to do with money not even close.
I know a lot of people who make a lot more than I do who have really fucked up lives. All money does is give your misery some financial
stability.

Back in January 2009, Barack Obama told Americans that,
“Everyone must sacrifice… Everyone must have some skin in the game.”

In 2009 the Obamas spent over $10 million of taxpayer money on drunken White House parties.

And, it doesn’t look like things are going to slow down anytime soon.

Looks like Obama and Homer have something in common… they both don’t give a shit!

“Labor Day”: Obama Used Illegal Aliens to Clean The “Other” Oil Spill - Debbie Schlussel

While, for months, you heard about the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, you probably haven’t heard much about the one in mid-Michigan, which happened in July. What I find interesting–no, outrageous!–is that while Michigan has a near-15% unemployment rate, the jobs cleaning up the spill that sent 820,000 gallons into a Kalamazoo River tributary went to . . . illegal aliens.

Obama's chief doughboy Robert Gibbs wants to make it clear that this new $50 billion plan is not a stimulus because it is nowhere near what was enacted in 2009. Also from Robert Gibbs, "By virtually any measure, our economy is in a better place than it was two years ago."

The Mother of All Big Dig Boondoggles - Michelle Malkin

President Obama calls his latest attempt to revive the economy a “Plan to Renew and Expand America’s Roads, Railways and Runways.” I’m calling it “The Mother of all Big Dig Boondoggles.” Like the infamous “Big Dig” highway spending project in Boston, this latest White House infrastructure spending binge guarantees only two results: Taxpayers lose; unions win.
The plan would add at least $50 billion more to the nearly $230 billion already allocated in the original trillion-dollar stimulus law for infrastructure. Less than one-third of that infrastructure stimulus money has been spent, but the urgency to pile on has increased exponentially as the midterm elections approach and unemployment hovers near 10 percent. So, the president says he wants to “put people back to work” through a new “upfront investment” in surface transportation, airports and the air-traffic control system paid for by repealing tax incentives for the oil and gas industries — followed by massive, unpaid-for expenditures on pie-in-the-sky high-speed rail, “environmental sustainability” and “livability,” whatever that means.

Two cents on your question... People "give a shit" about this pastor (and sports, fashion, gossip, politics, and scads of other interests) because they want to focus on anything that keeps them from thinking about their own little lives. It is far easier and more entertaining to tell others what is wrong with them than it is to make a personal change.
