Zuckerman: It’s the end of the love affair for Obama - Hot Air

For Mort Zuckerman, the end of the love affair occurred months ago — and perhaps it did for many others as well  Until Tuesday, though, they hadn’t yet delivered the Dear Barack letter to the White House.  Now the only way Obama can woo his electorate into a reunion is to fix the problems that he has made almost infinitely worse, and to do that, Obama may need to send a Dear Left letter in the next session of Congress:
The results represent a sharp rebuke to President Obama, who interpreted his 2008 “vote for change” as a mandate for changing everything and all at once. Right from the start, he got his priorities badly wrong, sacrificing the need to help create jobs in favor of his determination to pass Obamacare. It was the state of the economy that demanded genius and concentration, and it just did not get it. The president will now have to respond to public anger, not with anger management and, not, please God, with still more rhetoric. The unusually revealing exit polls spell it all out—how he re-energized the Republican Party, lost the independent center, and failed to overcome the widespread sense that the country is heading in the wrong direction. …

Democrats in denial - Washington Post

By George Will

When Alexander Pope was on his deathbed, his doctor assured him that his breathing, pulse and other vital signs were improving. "Here I am," Pope said to a friend, "dying of a hundred good symptoms."

Some Democrats read the election returns as symptoms of health because things could have been worse: "Happily, we have leprosy, not cholera." But embracing the fallacy of false alternatives is not a step toward recuperation. Neither is continuing the attitude that Democrats adopted when passing Obamacare and that foretold their unhappy election: "No compromise with the voters!"

Buffalo teacher's union feels the budget pinch, will cut cosmetic surgery from next contract - Wizbang

Taxpayer covered cosmetic surgery... $9 million worth last year alone:
The state-appointed authority overseeing Buffalo public school finances says taxpayer-covered cosmetic surgery rung up by the city's teachers totaled nearly $9 million in 2009.
The Buffalo Fiscal Stability Authority reports that last year's costs for such elective procedures as chemical peels and other skin treatments are up $8 million over the 2004 tab for cosmetic surgery provided under the teachers' union contract.
The president of the teachers' union says the union has agreed to give up the benefit in the next contract.

Taxpayer Money Used To Promote Food, Then Tell You Not To Eat It - Conservative Compendium
From the NYT:
Domino’s Pizza was hurting early last year. Domestic sales had fallen, and a survey of big pizza chain customers left the company tied for the worst tasting pies.
Then help arrived from an organization called Dairy Management. It teamed up with Domino’s to develop a new line of pizzas with 40 percent more cheese, and proceeded to devise and pay for a $12 million marketing campaign.
Consumers devoured the cheesier pizza, and sales soared by double digits.
“This partnership is clearly working,” Brandon Solano, the Domino’s vice president for brand innovation, said in a statement to The New York Times.
But as healthy as this pizza has been for Domino’s, one slice contains as much as two-thirds of a day’s maximum recommended amount of saturated fat, which has been linked to heart disease and is high in calories.
