Let me be clear, do I still think that racism still exists in American of course I do.

Are there white people out there that if given the chance would be dragging my black ass off to the next boat bound for Africa? Certainly!

Never mind the fact that in my family background I have more Irish, German and Native American in my family tree than I do any African.

You see this is why I increasingly have little hope that society will become more civilized because human beings, as long as we stay ignorant as to what lies out there in the greater beyond in the form of life we will continue to screw each other over using something as insignificant as skin color, race, creed, religion whatever.

I know for a fact that simply because of my skin color, no matter how sterling my work background some rednecks out there won’t hire me.

I know for a fact that certain people would have serious issues if I were dating their daughter and she even remotely considered a black man, some no doubt would be bought to tears at the very notion.

Drive into the wrong trailer park, be caught driving into the wrong upscale neighborhoods, driving a car with shiny rims would draw an unwarranted amount of attention for those who share my skin pigmentation.   

So folks before I go on I get it, racism does exist and it sucks, but to suggest as some on the left still claim and what clueless black folks claim America’s collective angst against Obama is racial in nature is just ridiculous.

Let me be blunt if Obama were successful at running the country that would mean that white folks would have jobs, white folks would have more money in their pockets, businesses particularly small businesses would be flourishing, fewer white people would be on welfare, more white people could take fancy vacations there all would be good.

If Obama were doing the right things I sure as hell would not be spending my time ranting and bitching about how much he sucks at being president. What would be the point?

You Obama fans ask yourself, why bitch about Obama if there were no reason to do so?

Many American’s only care about one thing “green” not “black.” I don’t give a shit if a Ferengi was president, if dude did his job and bought prosperity and jobs to all shit I would be trying to get dude a third term.

This is why black folks support for Obama is perplexing, as I said he clearly is detached from black folks and has done nothing to earn their loyalty but to cry that continued critique of him is purely racial is just stupid.   

Barack Obama has been involved in two elections that suggest that racism is no longer operative. His Senate run in Illinois and of course his ascension to the American presidency.

White voters proved willing to support a black candidate, not only did white folks showed that they were willing to support a black candidate they over performed in what some have said was their repudiation of naked electoral racism, electing Obama with a higher percentage of white votes than either Kerry or Gore earned.

No amount of backlash can diminish the importance of these electoral results. We have not landed on the shores of post racial utopia, but we have solid empirical evidence of a profound and important shift in America’s electoral politics.

There is one astonishing thing I’ve been reading on black websites and blogs and that is black folks collective angst that the liberal whites that voted for Obama and are now abandoning him are holding him to a higher standard than they would a white politician in the same position.

Basically what they say is if old-fashioned electoral racism is the absolute unwillingness to vote for a black candidate, then white folks liberal electoral racism is the willingness to abandon a black candidate when he is just as competent as his white predecessors.

To me this logic is simply political affirmative action. So according to these black folks we should forgive Obama’s absolute incompetence and “give a brotha a break.”

I’ve been floored by this commentary but not shocked, but the bottom line is I don’t give a shit what color the president is. I’m black and I never, ever liked nor trusted Obama and it does not have shit to do with his skin shade my problems with him are purely philosophical in nature.      

What you will eventually see as the election grows closer are historical comparisons between Obama and someone like Clinton to try and paint some rosy picture that we are not as bad off as it appears.   

In 1996 President Clinton was re-elected with a coalition more robust and a general election result more favorable than his first win. His vote share among women increased from 46 to 53 percent, among blacks from 83 to 84 percent, among independents from 38 to 42 percent, and among whites from 39 to 43 percent.

President Obama has experienced a swift and steep decline in support among white Americans from 61 percent in 2009 to 33 percent now.

I guarantee you that blacks will attribute some vain of racism to declining support towards the once clueless white liberals utter disappointment in choosing a black man for president that did not prove to be salvation for them or the nation as they dreamed of.

Whitey threw out over $500 million online alone dude set a record for political fundraising, clueless yes, racist hardly.

Obama’s record will be compared to Clinton’s in many ways and Clinton was enthusiastically re-elected.

For now we are listening to the subtle forms of the race card bias towards those who shouts out Obama’s complete incompetence. However watch as the racist whitey claims won’t be as subtle as the 2012 election grows near.

If someone is not doing the job to a satisfactory level you should get rid of them, that is our right as a voter. It is ridiculous to assume that all of our collective angst would solely be because many may not like his skin shade proof that common sense has clearly escaped many of us.

I listened to a couple of black radio stations this morning and I heard these radio personalities singing the praises of Obama and hoping the mindless Negro minions grant a brotha 4 more years to pimp his liberalism.

This fits into the quote I also read this morning where the chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus said “blacks won’t “march on the White House” over the high unemployment rate in the black community because Barack Obama is black.

Folks forgive me, I’m not shocked by this I only feel the need to rant because maybe an entire race of people need to engage in to political mental health screening.

Barack Obama has failed black Americans more than any other demographic as he is personally responsible for unemployment soaring to what some deem as depression-era levels. Unemployment among the black community has rocketed to 16 per cent during Obama's term but Negros obviously don’t give a fuck so why should I?

You can talk to Negros until you are blue in the face screaming from the tops of ghetto high-rises trying to educate people that unemployment levels for Negros are the same as the depression era in 129 and up from 12.7 per cent when Obama was inaugurated and Negros joyfully wept  in January 2009.

Thanks to Obama Negro joblessness stands at 16.2 percent. For black males, unemployment is 17.5 per cent while black teenagers have a 41 per cent unemployment rate up from 36.3 percent when Obama was elected.

Negros could not have done worse if George Wallace or David Duke themselves were blocking the doors to the employment offices across the nation. However you black folks watching your brothas and sistas struggle in the hoods across America are perfectly willing to grant Obama 4 more years to fuck you over while no doubt many of you have his mug hanging over your fireplaces.

You know one signature event told me just how little Obama gave a fuck about the well-being of black folks. Think about that time period when BP was dumping oil into the gulf.  Obama sat on his ass and did nothing as thousands of black folks in the gulf region were adversely affected. The devastation that took place caused the economic well-being of the various fishers (many who were black) in the gulf were no less grave than what happened during Katrina, the loss of income is the loss of income.  The oil spill was a major disaster that devastated the lives of black folks and Obama did not do jack. Shit Kanye produced a video of outrage calling Bush’s character into question flat out calling him racist, but calling Obama “racist” for essentially doing the same “ignore the plight of blacks or the poor”  that would be crazy right?

Now don’t get me wrong I understand more than most that a president is a president to all American citizens, but as we all know America is only as strong as its weakest citizens whether they be white, black, yellow or brown.

Even I must admit, even though I have never said it out loud or written it here, I did at least think he would attempt to be a beacon for positive change within the black community, throw a few bones out there to provide that hope that could change the mental direction of millions of black folks, especially black youth.

However he has not even pretended to give a shit about black folks. Except for giving some of his homies cushy appointments in his cabinet, had barbecues for his rich rapper, sports and Hollywood homies on the WhiteHouse lawn and gave seed money to members of the black press and bloggers so they could write nice stuff about him allowing these fawning sellout Negros oval office access.

I still talk to blacks who still do not know (thanks to the media) that Obama even ignored the plight of his own brother:

Theses news websites or blog sources won’t talk about out of wedlock births, crime in the hood, sinking opportunities for black men and the lack of basic services in so many black neighborhoods like parks for kids to play in, police walking the beat, regular garbage pick-up and building code enforcement knowing that not seriously addressing helps create a cycle of violence, blight and neglect that continue to haunt those affected. All made worse during Obama reign as supreme leader, I do recall black folks saying he was here to save them and that has not happened unless I’m missing something.  

Why should you care? Well, when a person is out of work regardless of color we all pay for it. When a person is not educated or undereducated we all pay for it. When a child is hungry and steals to satisfy their hunger we all suffer. When a woman settles for some loser unemployed dude and the result is another unwanted child we all raise and pay for that child.

When people look around and see their world crashing around them, believe me eventually they will attempt to cash your world, and Obama knows this all too well.

Ok Black America sit on your hands and do nothing, blame Congress that is easy, blame Republicans that is also easy, blame sell-out Uncle Tom’s like me feel free to ignore reality. But go home to your neighborhoods and look around, walk around your neighborhoods if you are able and ask yourself why does shit look like this, why are so many that look like me still unemployed, unable to find jobs and take advantage of opportunities. He will have darkies flanking him and in camera shots all the time in this campaign. He needs black folks in a big way and although he has totally fucked black folks he desperately needs them to keep on message. Look closely at Obama’s statement.  He says that Buffet pays a lowe TAX rate than his secretary, not a lower INCOME TAX rate.  The point is that Obama is paying an entirely different tax in Obama’s scenario.  He’s paying capital gains taxes, she’s paying income taxes.  The capital gains tax rate is fixed at 15% .. for both Buffet AND his secretary.  The income tax rate ranges from 15% to 35%, and both Buffet and his secretary will pay the same rate on the same level of taxable earned income. 

So now we have Obama saying that the rich – those with income of over one million a year – should pay no less than 30% in taxes.  Here we have Obama calling for a 30% capital gains tax rate.  This would be devastating for our economy.  If you want to talk about chasing wealth overseas – a 30% capital gains tax rate would do it."

If Newt’s Divorce is Fair Game, So is Obama’s Cocaine Use 

CNN’s John King was correct to bring up Newt Gingrich’s divorce and his ex-wife’s comments about “open marriage.”  Discussions of the candidates personal life are fair game to allow the public to fully understand the character of those that want to run in this next Presidential election.

But Barack Obama’s prior Cocaine use MUST also be viewed as fair game for press inquiries, and the press should begin probing now.  The public has not had this character flaw fully vetted due to the “Main Stream Media” fawning over Obama in the last election cycle.  It is now time to have the press ask the following questions of Barack Obama so voters can fully understand this candidates background and character.

-       When was the last time Obama used cocaine and over what span of time did he use this illegal drug?

-       How often did he use it.

-       Did he purchase it or sell it and thereby commit a felony?

-       What other illegal substances has he used, when, and for what span of time?  When was the last time?

It is time reporters such as NBC News Brian Williams, CBS News Scott Pelley, ABC News Jake Tapper, Fox News Bill O’Reilly, MSNBC Chuck Todd, and newspapers like the LA Times, NY Times, and Wall Street Journal ask these and other questions not yet fully probed.

 Ok I had to take some time to recover from the devastating loss my team suffered in the playoffs. Men are weak simple creatures, we are drawn to simple shit, a woman’s tits, ass, eyes, smile or the more complex among the males species may desire that his mate be able to cook, clean, fuck and impress the friends when you go out.

I really don’t give a shit about Newt’s marital affairs because as I said all men cheat, let me repeat all men cheat at some point and I have news for you more and more women are cheating than ever before so when we get a serious woman candidate for president are we going to develop a slut scale or hoe scale. I hope not because women need loving too.

Now as much as I hate Obama do I give a shit whether or not he did blow, no not even a little bit because just as the vast majority… no all men cheat the vast majority of men and yes again women too are getting fucked up with blow, Meth, Mary Jane name it.

I dislike Obama because he is an idiot and he is simply not good for the nation. Now can you argue that blow makes you too liberal or course not because people let me tell you I’ve known some very high profile people particularly those from the what you may call the wine and cheese crowd they get fucked up too all the damn time. Would I ever call into question someone’s character because of it no. Hell if I could afford to get fucked up more or was able to have a better quality of high I would. I also know a number of high functioning alcoholics as well.

Usually the people who worry or scare me the most are the ones who make judgment calls on an individual’s character because they themselves are seemingly perfect.

I don’t exactly know how you measure a person’s character these days because the bar has dropped so low these days so I sure as hell will not pretend that anyone running for president is not going to have a closet filled with all sorts of personal baggage.

Just don’t be a murderer, molest your children, pay you child support, steal from pension funds, be some racist fuck.

Just give me someone who gives a shit about the country, won’t sell us out to the highest bidder, who actually cares about America’s interest and who is not an idiot and can articulate a vision for the country while sober. What he or she does in between is simply not relevant to me.

The media and the race hustling industry keeps re-inventing myths about the Tuskegee Airmen being invincible fighters.
Tuskegee University has published a paper on their website that tries to show a balanced and realistic portrayal of the black pilots during WWII.
The first mission assigned to black pilots was to strafe Axis fighters on a tiny Italian island. Their performance was considered poor because the black squadron fled from Axis planes, while members of two white squadrons engaged. Their was a congressional hearing on weather or not to disband the project. However, activist members of US congress protected the project. They believed that the pilots would serve as role models for black Americans.
However, for the duration of the war, the black pilots continued the same pattern. They would rarely engage or pursue enemy aircraft.
When you compare the records of fighter groups flying the advanced P-51 planes in the 15th Air Force, we see that white fighter groups scored 2.26 victories for every plane lost. This is 3.5 times the rate of the black fighter group.
In other words, white pilots flying the same planes and the same missions were 350% more effective. Think of this as an investment. For every dollar you invest in the black pilots yields $.66, while every dollar invested in the white pilots yields $2.26.

Last week, a judge in St. Louis released seven middle school students after the key witness failed to show up for a hearing. The juveniles were accused of beating a local man almost to death. What had the poor man done to deserve such a thrashing? Not a thing. He was simply walking home from the grocery store. The attack, it turned out, was part of a popular craze our local youth call the knockout game, though it is anything but a game. One elderly man has already died from a similar assault.
After the dismissal, the teens celebrated outside the courtroom, high-fiving one another.
Police had arrested the young thugs after they bragged about the beatings on a Facebook page. Evidently, the teens believed society could do nothing to them, even if they crowed publicly about their exploits. It turns out they were right.
One of the teens agreed to testify. However, the witness, a 13-year old girl, soon had second thoughts, no doubt after her life was threatened. The news seemed to re-enforce the notion (already prevalent among county residents) that St. Louis city is little more than a petri dish from hell, a holding pen for the region's most violent, a real-life "Escape from New York," the sci-fi movie in which the city has been turned into a giant maximum security prison without guards. (Ironically, director John Carpenter's film was shot, not in New York, but in St. Louis.)

Man charged in Independence mall shooting - Kansas City Missouri 

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - Charges were filed Wednesday in the shooting of two teenagers last weekend at Independence Center.
Eric Bratton, 24, of Kansas City, Mo., was charged with two counts each of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
The popular shopping mall was locked down just before 5 p.m. Saturday after the shooting while authorities rushed to the area near Sears and Forever 21.

Investigators released images of two persons of interest Saturday night. On Tuesday, authorities spent much of the day questioning two people in connection to the shooting.
According to court documents, Bratton and the male victim got into a fight outside the mall after Bratton made a comment about the female victim’s buttocks.

A second unidentified person with Bratton pulled the two apart and the male victim thought it was all over, the documents said.
But according to the victim, Bratton followed him and his companion into the mall, urging him to “go outside” and “finish this.”
Bratton eventually pulled a semi-automatic handgun and shot both teenagers, prosecutors said. The male was shot in the thigh and the girl in the foot. They both sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated and released from an area hospital.

Teens Brutally Beat Asian Boy While Calling Him N-Word - News One 

CHICAGO  – Chicago police are questioning six teens in the beating of a 17-year-old boy that was captured on video and posted online.Police say the attack happened Sunday in a South Side alley. Video shows several assailants repeatedly kicking and striking the victim, sometimes with a shoe. The video was posted on YouTube.
Police say they robbed the victim of shoes and his wallet.
Chicago police said Tuesday that it didn’t appear the incident was racially motivated.
Authorities say the victim is of Asian descent. In the video, the assailants can be heard repeatedly using racial slurs(n-word) and making derogatory comments about speaking Chinese. Several assailants are wearing sweat shirt hoods and masks.
The victim was hospitalized for a laceration, bruising and abrasions.
No charges have been filed.

Most of the offenders visible in the video appeared to be white. The victim was later treated for bruises, abrasions and a cut lip at Mercy Hospital and released.

White criminals are the most likely to get the death penalty 

Recently the media has revived the lie that black criminals are more likely to get the death penalty. Even GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul has repeated this lie at two of the GOP debates.
Here are the facts:
Between 1975-2005, blacks committed 53% of all felony murders and 56% manslaughters. Black averaged 12% of the US population during this time period. Source: US DOJ, Bureau of Justice Statistics.

If the application of the death penalty was evenly distributed by race, then 53% of the people on death row would by black and 53% of the people executed would be black.
Here is a link to the most recent statistics of the application of the death penalty from the US DOJ, Bureau of Justice Statistics. The DOJ breaks it down into three racial categories. Black, Whites & Hispanics, and Asians & American Indians.
Only 41.5% of the inmates on death row are black. This means black murderers are substantially less likely to get the death penalty for murder.
Of the whopping 46 death row inmates executed in 2010 (out of 3,173), only 13 were black. This means only 28% of the death row inmates executed were black.
Fact: Blacks convicted of murder are significantly less likely to be sentenced to death than white murderers. Black inmates on death row are significantly less likely to actually be put to death than white inmates on death row.
The one people discrimination against by the judicial system is white people.

Well I predicted this would happen. Yesterday the NAACP in Dallas decided that they were angry about the app referred to as the “Avoid The Ghetto” app. Microsoft has developed the tool to help drivers and pedestrians avoid unsafe neighborhoods. According to CBS DFW,

“I’m going to be up in arms about it if it happens,” said Dallas NAACP President Juanita Wallace.
Wallace spent her afternoon at a rally on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and said she felt safe there, but fears the app may project otherwise.
“Can you imagine me not being able to go to MLK Blvd. because my GPS says that’s a dangerous crime area? I can’t even imagine that,” she said.
Microsoft says the app will use crime statistics to determine what parts of town are to be avoided. But it’s unclear where the data will come from and how it will be interpreted.
Microsoft has filed a patent for the app, but the actual product is unnamed and not available yet.
Opponents like Wallace fear it could hurt minority communities.
“It’s almost like gerrymandering,” she said. “It’s stereotyping for sure and without a doubt; I can’t emphasize enough, it’s discriminatory.”

Here is yet another example of the NAACP being way off base. Instead of being upset that a neighborhood is actually ghetto and has a high crime rate, they get upset that someone has called them out on it. Instead of actually doing something to better the neighborhood, they cry racism.

Bill Clinton likely fucked around on Hillary from day one, but just as most marriages the only reason they chose to stay together was out of sheer convenience. Most people stay married because of the kids, or finances or both. Two strangers sharing a dwelling making each other miserable and not giving a fuck about one another except for surface shit so what do they do? He does his thing and she does hers, happiness being a relatively new term is not even in the equation. My marriage departure while selfish was absolutely necessary because although I would have been better off financially because she made good money unless I addressed my own demons I would have only made her life worse. Divorce although fucked up sometimes is absolutely necessary to allow the other person to escape a life of complete and utter mental hell and to allow for personal and emotional growth and to pretend otherwise if just stupid and no amount of prayer or counseling can fix that. Marriages fail because frankly most people marry for completely the wrong reasons and once you cross a certain threshold in the relationship you say aw screw it I’ll give it a try. While single I am able to address issues I would have never been able to address staying in a circumstance where my psyche slowly deteriorated. I married twice for completely the wrong reasons and frankly it was completely unfair to both wives. Having said all of that… do I give a fuck about what happened between Newt and his wife hell no! I don’t give a shit… not even a little bit. All I want is a competent president, is Newt that I’m not sure but the actions of the media towards those on the right are becoming more appalling each day. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — John McCain used his first appearance of the day to go after Mitt Romney for alleged “flip-flopping.”
At a shipyard in Jacksonville, Mr. McCain swatted aside Mr. Romney’s charge that he is a “liberal Democrat” by saying, “He is consistent. He has consistently taken both sides of every major issue. He has consistently flip flopped on every major issue.”
He cited as examples of flip-flopping Mr. Romney’s support, as governor of Massachusetts, for a regional greenhouse gas emissions control program, for a lenient policy toward illegal immigrants and for campaign finance revisions, all positions he has reversed as a presidential candidate.
“People, just look at his record as governor,” Mr. McCain said.”He has been entirely consistent. He has consistently taken two sides of every major issue, sometimes more than two. So congratulations.”

Mr. McCain also went after Mr. Romney for his work as head of Bain Capital, a leveraged-buyout firm. “As head of his ‘investment’ company he presided over the acquisition of companies that laid off thousands of workers.”
Barely pausing to catch his breath, he also answered Mr. Romney’s criticism of his sponsorship of global warming legislation, which Mr. Romney charged would cause steep increases in energy prices and drag down the American economy.
“If he thinks the American economy will suffer by us cleaning up the environment, reducing pollution, and embracing green technology, including nuclear power,” Mr. McCain said, “then we just have a profound difference of opinion.”

I told my parents several months ago that Romney was going to be the GOP candidate.  Besides not believing me, my mother said, “But, he’s a Mormon.”

I’m not here to knock Mormons.  I have known and been friends with many of them all my life.  I have lived most of my life in AZ¸ and there are many towns in AZ that are considered Mormon enclaves, having been settled and still populated by mostly Mormons.  St. John’s, St. Davidand Greer,  to name a few.  This is also true of Idaho and other states that border Utah.
When the Mormons were settling the west, Brigham Young sent many settlers to AZ to spread their territory and influence in a sparsely settled area at that time.  Some of the towns are gone, many are still thriving.  Lee’s Ferryon the Colorado River was a famous hideout for John D. Lee, who ended up being the only Mormon to be convicted and executed for the Mountain Meadows Massacre in Utah.  It is still a place you can go and put your feet in the Colorado River.

I have read many books about Mormons and known many, but I’m not here to talk about their history or beliefs.  I’m here to talk about how most Christians in this country do not consider Mormons traditional Christians.  Since the GOP is made up of a large percentage of fundamentalist Christians, that’s a problem for Romney.
This could be one reason the LDS church is running ads in my state and other states called “I am a Mormon”.  The people in the ads don’t talk about their beliefs.  They talk about how they are scientists or teachers or some kind of a go getter, and then they end with “I am a Mormon.”
 See.  I’m normal.  I’m Mormon.
But most fundamentalist Christians do not believe Mormons to be Christians like in this site asking:

If anyone visiting this blog is a Romney fan let me be clear, this is not about attacking Mormonism. While I have my bias based on personal experience this is about electability. While in 2008 Romney was no real threat to get the nomination he of course has the nomination now. My issue with Ron Paul was simple electability; my issue with any candidate will always be electability. I’ve already had conversations with several I would say moderate more independent types those folks who are not particularly religious. I sent all links to a video you can find on You Tube an animated video about Mormons and they basically freaked and thought it was a spoof and it is in fact not a spoof. As harsh as the South Park episode was on Mormons it nailed them (I still laugh hysterically at the episode) “dumb, dumb, dumb” classic… Believe me when I tell you when Obama’s media machine starts their info campaign on Mormonism they will make damn sure the entire country knows what Mormonism is and that will destroy Romney’s campaign and I’m not even talking about his flip-flopping, tar baby, $10,000 bet bullshit. This is why I will say and keep saying making Romney the GOP challenger to Obama guarantees Obama a second term.

In December 2007, Mitt Romney was asked by “Meet The Press” host Tim Russert about the history of racism in the Mormon church, which excluded African Americans from participation until 1978. Romney claimed that his father marched with Martin Luther King. Romney would also claim that he “saw his father march with Martin Luther King” in a speech about his Mormon faith earlier that month. In 1978, Mitt Romney would tell the Boston Globe that he and his father both marched with Martin Luther King.
The problem is, Mitt Romney’s father, George Romney, the former governor of Michigan, never marched with Martin Luther King. Mitt Romney would concede that fact to the Boston Globe in 2007. The Boston Phoenix could find no record of Mitt’s father, George marching with Martin Luther King at all.

February 2008: Lessons from the Fall of RomneyCare - Cato

When then-Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney signed into law the nation’s most far-reaching state health care reform proposal, it was widely expected to be a centerpiece of his presidential campaign. In fact Governor Romney bragged that he would "steal" the traditionally Democratic issue of health care. "Issues which have long been the province of the Democratic Party to claim as their own will increasingly move to the Republican side of the aisle," he told Bloomberg News Service shortly after signing the bill. He told other reporters that the biggest difference between his health care plan and Hillary Clinton’s was "mine got passed and hers didn’t."

Outside observers on both the Right and Left praised the program. Edmund Haislmaier of the Heritage Foundation hailed it as "one of the most promising strategies out there." And Hillary Clinton adviser Stuart Altman said, ‘‘The Massachusetts plan could become a catalyst and a galvanizing event at the national level, and a catalyst for other states."

Today, however, Romney seldom mentions his plan on the campaign trail. If pressed he maintains that he is "proud" of what he accomplished, while criticizing how the Democratic administration that succeeded him has implemented the program. Nevertheless, he now focuses on changing federal tax law in order to empower individuals to buy health insurance outside their employer, and on incentives for states to deregulate their insurance industry. He would also use block grants for both Medicaid and federal uncompensated care funds to encourage greater state innovation. He encourages states to experiment, but does not offer his own state as a model.

A Double Failure
There’s good reason for his change of position. The Massachusetts plan was supposed to accomplish two things-achieve universal health insurance coverage while controlling costs. As Romney wrote in the Wall Street Journal, "Every uninsured citizen in Massachusetts will soon have affordable health insurance and the costs of health care will be reduced." In reality, the plan has done neither.

When Newt Gingrich criticized Mitt Romney's record at Bain Capital, he raised the ire of many conservatives and may have unwittingly mobilized a Republican rank and file now prepared to bestow Romney with the GOP nomination on a silver platter.

Rush Limbaugh called Gingrich's criticisms "out of bounds for those who value the free market." Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was even blunter when he said, "What the hell are you doing, Newt? I expect this from Saul Alinsky!" But perhaps the most interesting defense of Romney came from Mike Huckabee, who took aim at both Gingrich and Texas Governor Rick Perry who famously accused Romney of practicing "vulture capitalism." Huckabee said, "It's surprising to see so many Republicans embrace that left-wing argument against capitalism." Yet in 2008, it was Huckabee who in a campaign ad aimed at Romney said, "I believe most Americans want their next President to remind them of the guy they work with, not the guy who laid them off."

Given that Romney has spent the vast majority of his professional life in the private sector and touts that experience in his bid for the White House, it seems strange that any criticism of that record from his Republican rivals is not only off limits but the equivalent of criticizing free enterprise itself. It is a curious line of argument when you consider that Bain Capital was the recipient of generous government grants, subsidies, and tax breaks and profited handsomely regardless of whether the companies in which it invested prospered or went into bankruptcy. Any business in which one can reap the rewards without suffering the consequences of risk can hardly be characterized as engaging in free enterprise.
